About the program:

This Lake Water Canoe Safety and Rescue program provides canoeists with an opportunity to practice commonly used shore and lake rescue skills.  Focus is on the fundamental skills, knowledge, and manoeuvres of rescuing paddlers and equipment from the shore or on water situations.

This workshop is for all levels of canoeists as well as both tandem and solo canoeists.


After taking this program participants will have gained experience in rescue techniques used for wilderenss canoe tripping. Participants will have demonstrated the ability in the areas of performing canoe over canoe rescues, solo rescues, re-entering the canoe, throwbag rescues, and how to properly manage rescue situations. Participants are encouraged to continue their training by enrolling in a certification course.


Participants should have a basic knowledge and skill of paddling a canoe on lake water.  Participants should have a reasonable fitness level, participants will be expected to perform all rescue techniques from land, from a canoe, and from in the water.

Participants should be prepared to get wet.

All safety equipment is provided (life jackets, ropes, throw bags, paddles)

Class size is limited to 8 participants so you'll recieve lots of individual instruction

Canoes: Provide your own or rent one, $25 per person per day. Please select "Lesson + Canoe Rental" during the checkout process if you need to rent a canoe.

Recommended minimum age 16.

What to Bring:

Please come ready to spend the day outdoors with protection from the sun, wind, wet, and cold – meaning, dress in layers. Hats, available long sleeves and pants, windproof, waterproof, and insulation layers.  All participants will be expected to get wet so a wet suit may be a good idea incase of a cool day. A change of clothes is a good ideal.  If it is a cold day gloves are advisable.  Snacks and liquids are important, be sure to bring enough water to last the day.  The program will take a good portion of the day so bring a bag lunch, water, and enough snacks to last the day.

If you prefer bring your own lifejacket and paddle.
